Meet The Team: Tim and Diane

Two interviews in one post! (Coddling, you say? These are not the droids you’re looking for.) Next up on our Meet the Team series, hear from Dorchester’s own Lucy and Ricky. These two VPs have been brainstorming and bickering, cahooting and clashing for fifteen plus years at Dorchester. They both bring passion for and knowledge of genre publishing to the table that has helped build Dorchester’s line of award-winning, bestselling authors and titles.

Today, Tim’s being particularly gentlemanly and Diane is getting the last word in. So without further ado, meet Tim and Diane!

Diane shields Tim from the dreaded cameraman!

Tim DeYoung

Hometown: Rochester, MN

Dorchester nickname: None (yet!)

  • What do you do at Dorchester?

Sales, Marketing, Distribution, Foreign Rights, and Sub rights.

  • Why Dorchester?

I had worked at the large publishers and wanted to work at a smaller house where things could happen more quickly, decisions would occur in a conversation, and meetings would be minimal.

  • Why did you pursue publishing?

Natural progression after spending a life in bookstores.

.

  • If you had to live in the cover of one of Dorchester’s books for a day, which one would you pick?

Timestruck.

  • How would you handle the zombie apocalypse?

Move to an island and hire people to patrol on boats and sink any boat that came near.

Diane Stacy

Hometown: Philadelphia

Dorchester nickname: Don’t think I have one, or at least not one that anyone has called me to my face.

  • What do you do at Dorchester?

Everything related to direct sales. That includes: ordering trade books for authors and assisting with orders online, over the phone, or via good ol’ snailmail, signings, customers, general customer service, a little bit of everything.

  • Why Dorchester?

There was an ad in my local paper that read: Do you like to Read? And I was hooked. I went to apply for an operator job, but was called back for an interview with Mr. Backe to start up the C.S. Center – they called us the Telecenter. I’ve been with Dorchester 16 years plus. When I started, there was 1 book club but I grew that into 6 different clubs.

  • Why did you pursue publishing?

Love of reading! I love helping to find new authors for readers. It’s exciting!

  • Any favorite office moments?

None that can be shared with the public!

  • If you had to live in the cover of one of Dorchester’s books for a day, which one would you pick?

So very difficult, there are so many I love. It would definitely be a Paranormal or Time Travel book, just not sure which one. Probably a Christine Feehan, C.L. Wilson, Dara Joy or Sandra Hill novel.

  • How would you handle the zombie apocalypse?

Seriously, I’d probably be fodder!

One Response to Meet The Team: Tim and Diane

  1. I’m really enjoying the inside peek at Dorchester! It’s great to see the people behind the great products. Hey Tim–you won’t be safe on that island. Zombies don’t drown. They can walk under water…
